A local MLA wants the NDP Government to extend the consultation process for the Castle Mountain area by another six months.

Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier says the 30-day period just isn't enough to get feedback on the implications of turning the area into a provincial park.

He says this announcement, and the one on the new Municipal Government Act, are showing a troubling trend.

"That just seems to be the way this government is going, they're not going with public consultation whatsoever before they're going with these announcements," Stier says. "We saw that in the most recent announcement that I was involved with here with the change to a provincial park in the Castle area just to the southwest down in the corner near Crowsnest Pass."

He says stopping logging would go against the Fire Smart program that manages logging to alleviate the danger of forest fires.

The current deadline for public consultation is Mon. Oct. 5.
