Canada Parks Day is this Saturday at sites across the country and locally at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.

The Visitor Experience Manager, Travis Weber says it's always a big day for them.

"For the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site, we're the only Parks Canada administered historic site that commemorates the ranching history in Canada, so we have a great number of activities, some of them focused to the ranch that are great family fun for the visitors," Weber says.

The Guns of the Golden West will show off their skills Saturday morning from 11 to noon. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be on site from noon to 5 p.m. with their telescopes to talk about safe solar viewing and host a presentation at the Visitor Centre at 12:30 p.m.

"We have the History Wrangler coming out and he's better known as Rob Lennard, and he's a musician and a singer/songwriter, he's an award winning historical fiction writer based out of Calgary and he's coming out for two one-hour shows in the afternoon, so one at 1 o'clock and one at 3 o'clock," he says.

The Millarville Musical Ride will also perform twice and there's also all the usual activities at the Bar U including the Hometown Heroes display honouring six foothills cowboys who served in World War 1.

Weber says they're working their way toward next year's event when Canada's 150th birthday will be celebrated.
