The Foothills School Division is in the process of completing a number of facility upgrades thanks to provincial funding announced in the spring.

Assistant Superintendent Drew Chipman says they received about $1.9-million in CMR stimulus projects.

"Some of those projects, roof repair at Senator Riley, Percy Pegler roof repairs, that's scheduled to be done mid-October.  We're doing a floor replacement at Big Rock gymnasium, that's also completion scheduled for mid-October, we did some asbestos abatement at Cayley, LED lighting, urinal replacement and door access, all of that stuff is underway," he says.

He says the biggest capital project is the Blackie school modernization.

"We're continuing to work on that, planning is continuing.  We're working with the (Foothills) County obviously on the community use for the part that they're putting forward, and we're planning on some consultations, or at least some sharing as to where we're at, what the plan is.  We anticipate that happening later this month or early next month, we know Blackie's excited about that," Chipman says.

He says contractors were also able to get some people back to work.
