Okotoks residents have the opportunity to bring entertainment to their neighbourhood this summer.

Last year saw the first Pop-Up in the Park event take place in the Cimarron community with a variety of events like live music, food trucks, and plays.

Allan Boss, culture and heritage manager, says families are encouraged to have some fun with their submissions for the Pop-Up in the Park contest.

"The idea is to have people take funny, family friendly pictures in their local park and in 10 words or less tell us why their park is the best home for the 2017 Pop-Up in the Park event."

Photo submissions can be made to culture@okotoks.ca with the subject "Pop-Up Entry" before the deadline on Mar. 5.

The Town will posts submissions on the Town of Okotoks' Culture and Heritage Facebook page from Mar. 6-12. Residents can vote on photos by "liking" them then the photo with the most likes and the park it was taken in will be selected as the winner and venue for the 2017 event.

Boss says the idea behind Pop-Up in the Park is to have a fun, family friendly event that takes place in a different park every year.

"We have lots of events that happen in our downtown core and those events are fabulous and fun but how do we reach out to the other communities, how do we expand and start to include some of the other places?," he says. "Maybe there are other parks that are great for us to go to and try to embrace that community and that neighbourhood."
