The last big piece of berming which needs to be done in High River is the one along 12 Avenue in the Town's southwest.

Construction hasn't started yet, meaning all those flood bags on 12 Avenue are here to stay until it does.

However Mayor Craig Snodgrass is hopeful construction will begin soon.

"I don't exactly when at this point. But since Minister Bilous was in town here a few weeks ago we have received funding to continue with the engineering work."

Snodgrass says as much of an inconvenience as they are, they're not going anywhere until it's safe to take them away.

"We're not going to do anything until we've got that direct commitment from the Alberta Government that we're moving forward on this thing. Priority one has always been to have High River protected, and that's part of it right now."

Snodgrass says if the construction can get going before the end of the year they'll remove the flood bags and restore 12 Avenue to two-way traffic.
