Groundbreaking for the Southbank Business District took place on Tuesday, June 5th, marking the start of the new development here in Okotoks.

Jeff Burns, Owner of Burnswest Properties Ltd., who will be heading up the development, says there will be bays and condos in the plans.

"We have people interested in lots, we'll also be putting up a couple of buildings with bays for lease and condos for purchase," he said.

Phase one of the development has begun, with plans to have it completed and utilities installed and functioning by the end of summer or beginning of fall this year.

Burns says the district is in a prime location for accessibility, ethstetics and nature and he's excited to see action happening after a long wait.

"This has been a long time in the works and it's super exciting that it's actually happening. We're moving dirt and we should have services in by mid-summer, and have them activated by fall," he said.

The district is located just Northeast of Costco, and is zoned for light industrial ventures, but Burns says the zoning is somewhat flexible and the possibilities are endless now that ground has been broken.
