As a blast of winter heads our way Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Okotoks.

According to Environment Canada over the next few days Okotoks will see snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 centimetres, with locally higher amounts, up to 40 centimetres, possible along portions of the foothills.

"A slow moving upper low over southern British Columbia will bring a prolonged snowfall event to the foothills and southwestern Alberta. Heavy snow will begin tonight and persist through Thursday, into Friday before gradually tapering off Saturday morning."

They reccommend keeping a close eye on road conditions.

"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."

The snowfall warning is in effect for:

  • M.D. of Foothills near High River and Aldersyde
