Shovelling snow can be a physically demanding task for many residents.

Those who need assistance can get help through the Town of Okotoks Snow Angel program where a volunteer will shovel the sidewalk and driveway of someone in need.

Sian Anderson, volunteer administrator for Family and Community Support Services, says the program is about neighbours helping neighbours.

"We're always aiming to match volunteers with a resident in their neighbourhood and encourage everyone to go out and help their neighbours to facilitate it, it doesn't have to come through us," she explains. "Part of the program is that we really want to just encourage everyone to help out in their neighbourhood."

She adds the program has a great volunteer turnout.

"One hundred percent of residents that want to be involved with it are supported through the program and the volunteers are outstanding, they independently go out when it snows and lots of them are not only shovelling their own driveways at home but are going out and helping their neighbours."
