There's a chance to sneak a peak at the new Pason Centennial Arena Expansion this afternoon.

Community members can stop by the arena from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. to take a look at the expansion which has been under construction for nearly a year.

Susan Laurin, Community Services Director says the Town is very excited to show off the work that's been done.

"The expansion of the Pason Centennial Arena is on budget, on time, and we just want to be able to give residents an opportunity to see what its going to look like. We are actually pouring the concrete for the NHL pad and that will be a 14 hour process. We want to have people come in and sneak a look to see what pouring the concrete entails, and what is this fantastic building going to look like when it opens at the end of January."

Laurin shares residents will only get a vantage point look at the expansion, and they should expect even more features when the arena holds its soft opening in 2018.

One of those features is the NHL ice surface is also designed for sledge hockey, everything will be wheelchair accessible.

"We have two dressing rooms that are specifically designed, the lips that go in onto the ice will be lower, the players boxes themselves will have see through glass so they will be able to see out, and we have removable benches."

She's also excited for the new leisure rink, where Okotokians can come and skate anytime.

"Right now we have very limited public skating times, so very similar to the water park we're going to have a leisure ice where you can come at any time during the day to public skate. There's going to be a 12 foot fire place and we'll be able project movies and music videos over the fire place, so we're very excited about that."

The Pason Centennial Arena expansion will officially open to the public January 31, at 4:00 p.m.
