It was a night full of smokey, savory and sweet food at Lynnwood Ranch's Feast and Frolic event.

300 people attended the opening party, Owner of Lynnwood Ranch Gus Leduc says there was a ton of food cooked, and so much more waiting.

"There's about 200 lbs of brisket, and about 150 lbs of salmon for protein, then we cooked up all kinds of BBQ appetizers and sides."

The actual competition gets underway today.

With 34 participants this year, Leduc says the event just keeps growing.

"We started 3 years ago with this competition, the 1st year we had about 22 teams, and last year we had 30 teams, and this year we've got 34 teams." Leduc adds "The different Genres of food are growing and people like the variety, it's growing and there's a pent up demand for southern style BBQ restaurants."

Leduc says this competition is just like the ones you'd find in the Southern States.

"All the teams turn in four categories, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Pork Ribs and Chicken.  This competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society, and they're the governing body, so it's the real deal."

Admission onto the ranch is free, and you can purchase tasting tickets, for BBQ samples from competitors.

There's more to it than just food, as with any Southern BBQ competition, there will be vendors set up, a classic car show, and true to Lynnwood Ranch style, free hay rides on the wagon.
