Residents of Okotoks can now subscribe to Blue Cart Recycling if they haven't before and it will only cost single-family home residents an additional $7.25 onto their utility bill.

But there are a few tips and reminders subscribers should remember when they do finally have their blue cart at their disposal.

Waste Services Manager Paul Lyons says the community needs to consider the Town's pick-up crew when bringing the cart to the curb.

"We are asking residents to remember that we need a metre clearance around the cart, so it shouldn't be close to fence posts or vehicles," he says.

Lyons says you can add just about any form of recyclable material to you cart.

"Glass and food-grade glass, metal cans, cardboard, paper and plastic. The important thing for residents to remember is we do accept plastic film and plastic bags but they should all be bundled and tied into one bag."

Lyons says there are a few exceptions for recyclables in the blue carts, but those that the Town can't collect can still be recycled.

"Absolutely no hazardous waste, no clothing and no food items. We currently have drop off locations here at the recycling centre for food waste and also hazardous waste."
