Harvest hasn't hit high gear yet but there are already plenty of large farm tractors and other machinery being moved around on the highway.

Sergeant Brent Hawker with the High River RCMP says as farms have gotten bigger so has the equipment so it's important to be patient.

"Certainly as we move forward into the summer, as it becomes fall, the farmers are more active in the fields and with that productivity and harvest comes the need to move large implements on our provincial highways, so we're just asking everyone to remain vigilant when the machinery's on the road," Sgt. Hawker says. "They're required to have slow moving vehicles signs on the implement so certainly watch for those, that's your indication that the vehicle is travelling at slower speeds on the highway."

He says they usually have their four-way flashers on and have amber flashing lights but with the increasing size of farms, the machines have gotten bigger while they're driving on the same size roads they did forty years ago so it's important to take a good look and make sure you have lots of room for passing.

He says operators of farm machinery will often pull over when they get a chance to let the traffic that's built up behind them go past.
