The economy has taken a real dive in Alberta and that means the number of people needing help will only go up.

Once again this year the Salvation Army is there to help.

Lieutenant Kelly Fifield says they're looking for donations for their Christmas food hampers.

"Not everybody realizes that our Christmas hampers are different from our regular food hampers," she says. "We give out our regular monthly food hampers from our food bank but with our Christmas hampers, we actually give out a Christmas dinner hamper, that the point is to cover the food, not for the week or for the month, but for that one day."

Lieutenant Fifield says it isn't always turkey, stuffing and cranberries that people want for that meal,  so cash donations allow them to buy the food they really need.

She says if someone is in need of help they can contact Family Services at 403-652-2195 extension 2.
