Two students from Foothills Composite High School came home with some high accolades after last week's graduation ceremonies.

Seniors Megan Coutts & Aimee Marquardt both were given Ambassador Awards for their dedication towards making their school a better place.

Coutts says she was surprised when she heard her name called.

"It was so surreal I feel like I'm not worthy of the award I don't even know," she says. "It was so insane and my cheerleading coach actually presented that to me so I thought it was really fitting that she did that, it was incredible. I'm so honoured to receive this award."

Marquardt received the Unsung Hero Ambassador title and says it takes a lot to win that award and was honoured when she was selected by her peers including Coutts who voted for her.

"They don't look for the limelight they just volunteer their time and don't get any hours put on their extra credit. It's just someone who is always there and someone you can depend on. It was very surreal during the speech and I heard elements during it and I thought it might be me but it could have been anyone who was nominated."

Coutts says as she nears the end of her high school life that she's done quite a bit in just three years leading to an award she didn't expect.

"I helped with the 30 hour famine and grade nine tours during open houses. I also helped with the cheer team in terms of recruiting members as well as being captain so that helps with the whole leadership and the dependability aspect of the award."

Coutts plans to take up Sports Medicine at Mount Royal College next year while Marquardt hopes to get into Nursing School.
