High Riverittes have been able to cool off and help out others at the same time this summer.

The Narrow Road Home, a home for women struggling with addiction, have been selling ice cream from a trailer beside the home on MacLeod Trail.

Kim Courtney says it's been great.

"It's been an amazing opportunity for the women at the Narrow Road Home, both the staff and clients to integrate into the community to dispel the myth and the shame that is often surrounded, there's sometimes a stigma about women or men in recover, you know that they're somehow defective in some way and that's just not true at all," Courtney says.

She says it allows the women to interact with the community that has embraced them.'

"They get to know their neighbours, feel like they're not so isolated and cocooned and get out there and have some laughs" she says. "You know, the mayor comes by, council members, staff and they can say 'hey, we just want to come by and see how you guys are doing, learn a little bit more about you' and the women are just so open to share, so that's exciting."

She says they're working on raising the money to renovate the garage at the house so the ice cream shop has a more permanent location.

They're open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m .evenings and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekends.
