Is it the most wonderful time of year for teachers? Most students are excited to see friends, but not so excited for school.

Foothills School Division Superintendent John Bailey says unlike most students, teachers are chomping at the bit to get back at it.

"I think the vast majority of teachers get excited about going back. What we find is many teachers by mid august are back in the school, starting to get things ready." Bailey says "They're excited about the coming year and they've got new ideas for teaching and that's always exciting."

While teachers may be anxious to get back at it, Bailey says there's still a lot of planning to finish.

"Right now we're in what I would call the quiet planning stage in the division office, it's fairly quiet but it's a good chance to do that planning for next year and get things going." Bailey adds,
"It will be fairly quiet for the next week or two but it will pick up when the school year gets closer."

Kids will get a few extra days of summer, as this year school won't start until September 5th.

One big agenda item coming up this year for the School Division, is the elections.

Bailey says those thinking of running for a trustee position should decide quickly, as nomination day is only about a month away.

"There is a nomination day about mid September, so once that happens we will put on our website the names of those who are interested in running as trustees and where they're at."

He explains that trustees have an important role in education, and voters should get to know them.

"I would encourage people to talk to those running and find out what they believe about education and why the want to run."
