The Shaw Charity Classic is helping to put some cash in the coffers of local charities, including the Rowan House Emergency Shelter.

Ally Cramm, with the Shelter's Resource Development Team, says they're pounding the pavement looking for people to pledge any amount.

"You're kind of pledging the number of birdies that the pro golfers are going to hit during the tournament and so, for example, 5 cents a birdie for the estimated 900 birdies that are going to be hit this year, will make a donation of $45 in your name," Cramm says.

"Something that's really exciting is, the Shaw Charity Classic also has, or the Birdies For Kids program, also has a matching donation program so whatever we raise from the Foothills community will be matched," she added. "So you're donation goes a lot further than just whatever you pledge."

Cramm says the money raised through the golf event will go to their "Branches" program, which is their preventative education program, providing in-school and awareness events.

A thousand birdies were made during the 2013 tournament and 892 were shot in last year's event.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so by visiting the News and Events page at www.rowanhouse.ca.
