Bike tires were spinning in front of Mokala Medical Clinic in Okotoks this Thursday morning.

Dr. Kobie Coetzee and Sharyl Malin, Medical Office Assistant, rode their stationary bikes in front of the clinic for three hours straight, to help raise money for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer that takes place Aug. 8.

Coetzee says the funds raised go straight to patients.

"One of my best friends is an oncologist at Tom Baker so he arranged with the Alberta Cancer Foundation to give us a guarantee that the money raised by our team will go to clinical trials and not to the Cancer Foundation in a whole so we know what we're doing goes directly to the patients."

Coetzee says her friend gives the team feedback on the positive results with the patients trials the money raised has gone to.

Malin says the fundraiser is something she holds close to her heart.

"I've had two family members treated at Tom Baker so it does hit close to home, plus knowing lots of people who have been treated there," she says. "If I can get on a bike and help somebody? Absolutely."

Last year Malin and Coetzee's team, the Tom Baker Cancer Conquerors, raised close to $300,000, and their goal this year is to hit $500,000.
