Residents of Heritage Park Estates have had enough with their landlords with substantial increases on their lot rental.

The rent increases vary lot to lot and the rates are going up due to the park's new cable and telephone services with some rental lots being as high as $900 or more.

Kate McLean, one of the residents speaking out against the rent rate increase,  says that way too much for residents living there.

"A lot increase or rent increase of 1.5% or whatever a year (depending on the lot) I want to see a freeze on what they're doing right now," she says. "It's $95, it's $50, it's $60, it's got to stop."

The owners of the park are Lansdowne Equity Ventures Ltd. and McLean says when it's comes to the rent increase due to cable and phone services, residents like herself and others go out and get their own service at a price they're willing to pay.

"Basically [Lansdowne] is dictating who we have to use as a provider for our internet services and our telephone services is what it's going to end up being," she says. "Basically what it is, is Lansdowne using it as a cash cow and we're being charged $70 for cable, but I can get it for $20."

She says it has come to the point where ends will no longer meet for those living in the park.

"We can't afford it," McLean says. "We have single people, senior citizens, limited income and low income. We need to see a change."

Residents gathered at last week's Okotoks Town Council meeting to discuss the increased rent rate that will come into effect January 2016.

Complaints have arose from the meeting about the owners of the park not maintaining the grounds and other utility needs being neglected.

Council has taken the delegation as information and will be investigating the park's situation and will come back with results next month.
