The Sheep River Health Trust is ready to help residents recognize their loved ones in a festive way.

The Points of Light campaign is where light bulbs on the trees at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre and Oilfields General Hospital can be purchased in recognition or celebration of someone.

Andrea Mitchell, executive director of the Health Trust, says it's heartwarming to see all the support the initiative receives.

"We are very thankful for the community coming forward to support our Points of Light but it's also a time for us to remember those in our community that we've lost or want to remember or recognize so we feel it's a really special fundraiser for everyone."

She says some people use the campaign as a way to remember someone special, thank a friend, or will purchase a point of light as a Christmas card or present.

Points of Light continues to be a major fundraiser for the Health Trust.

"Right now we have a few projects ongoing but we have a capital project coming up for Urgent Care renovation at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre so that money will start us down that path," Mitchell explains.

A point of light can be purchased for $20 or three for $50.
