A male suspect led police from Vulcan, High River, Okotoks, Turner Valley and Calgary on a merry chase Wednesday, March 21, but in the end the Mounties got their man.

Just after five in the morning, Vulcan RCMP got a call about a man driving a truck stolen from Okotoks, towing a trailer stolen from Taber, with a snowmobile stolen from Champion.

One officer pulled him over, was assaulted, and the chase was on.

Vulcan RCMP Sergeant Troy Dobson says they ran the truck into the ditch, but the suspect had a "Plan B," and jumped on the snowmobile.

"Took his dog with him and fled from police at that point. Our officers contained the area and our K-9 unit was called out, as well as the HAWCS helicopter from Calgary. Located the male hiding in a bush with the stolen snowmobile. They arrested the male and he's currently in our custody here in Vulcan."

Dobson says the as yet unidentified man, is also wanted for stolen property offences in Gleichen, Redcliff, Calgary and Langley, B.C.

He says the RCMP Officer assaulted by the suspect, sustained minor injuries, but was OK and able to continue the investigation.

The identity of the suspect will be released once he's been formally charged.

What we do know is he's 34 years old and from the Blackie area and is facing a total of 18 charges from Wednesdays incident.

Dobson was quick to thank the members from other detachments as well as the CPS for their help, as well as local landowners who helped lead the RCMP to the suspect.
