High River RCMP say they have charged a man with a number of criminal offences following a break and enter to a rural site.

On Apr. 14, police say they received a call of a break and enter at the Canadian Natural Resources oilfield site.

Both High River and Okotoks RCMP responded and located the suspect's vehicle.

The suspect attempted to flee but was brought to a halt due to a spike belt.

The driver then tried to take off on foot but was quickly apprehended with help from RCMP Police Dog Services and a Calgary Police Service HAWCS Helicopter.

Police say the suspect's vehicle was stolen out of Airdrie and had been repainted to avoid being detected.

Officers searched the vehicle and found bear spray, two knives, and multiple break in instruments.

According to RCMP, Justin Gordon Denison, 30, of Calgary, has been charged with eight offences, including flight from police, break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and two counts of failure to comply.

Denison was released from custody following a judicial hearing and will appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on May 3.
