In typical long weekend fashion, RCMP will be out in full force on highways and roads.

Cpl. Hal Turnbull, with the RCMP's 'K' Division, says Aug. 1 officers will be taking part in a initiative for National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

"There will be enhanced check stops posted across the country and throughout Alberta just to make sure that people are abiding by the traffic laws, wearing their seat belts, and also to make sure people are not impaired by alcohol and drugs."

Aside from speeding and other driving infractions, police will also keep their eyes peeled for those with campers or trailers.

"They should make sure, whatever they're hauling, be it trailers with boats, jet skis, campers, that they adhere to the requirements under the provincial statutes that require those vehicles to be safely hitched to the vehicle that's doing the towing, and don't over load it," he says. "Any loads which they may have on a trailer should be adequately secured so things don't fly off half way down the highway."

Turbull adds making sure motorists are safe is always a priority.
