The Okotoks Raiders Lacrosse Association is looking to help local families get their kids involved in sport.

The group is looking for used sports equipment donations to help ease the cost associated with getting children into the sport.

Elizabeth Welton, mini tyke coordinator for the Raiders, says with the high cost of sports it's important to lend a helping hand.

"Especially for the new players and new parents who have never played before and don't have siblings and are just coming into the sport right from the start, it's expensive to equip from nothing," she says. "There's lots of people that have equipment just sitting around and it could serve another family who may have two or three kids playing."

Equipment the association is looking for includes sticks, shoulder and kidney pads, slash guards, gloves, and helmets with cages.

Welton says they equipment will be sorted before it's given out.

"We'll collect the equipment, determine whether it's worth passing on, sort it out, clean it, mend it, then we'll probably distribute it to each of the age groups depending on the size we get so the age group coordinators will probably take them and let the parents look through them at the first practice and let kids pick out what they need."

Collection dates at the Crescent Point Regional Field House are Mar. 1 from 6- 8 p.m., Mar. 4 from 4- 8 p.m., and Mar. 5 from 10:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.
