Okotoks Culture and Heritage took part in Alberta Culture Days this past  weekend and put on multiple free events for residents to participate in.

Festivities started Friday afternoon and went until Sunday with musical performances and a walk through the Sheep River valley.

Kathy Coutts, Museum Specialist, guided the river walk for the first time and says the Sheep River is the heart of culture in Okotoks.

"The river walk is really about how the community started, and how the Sheep River is our life blood."

Coutts adds the river is why settlers originally came to Okotoks why people continue to come to the area.

She adds that people always talk about location, location, location, and that is what she thinks entices people is its location.

"What draws people to Okotoks is the beauty of the Sheep River and that is a contributing factor of the culture that we have created here."

On the walk, Coutts talked about the valley itself, previous floods, the wildlife and the beauty of the river, and the danger and mystery of it.

In the museum, there were also activities that related to its exhibits.

"One of these activities relates to money, and money is a part of our culture. It is how we trade for things, buy things, and it has been a part of our culture for centuries," Coutts says.

The Up in the Attic event happened on both Friday and Saturday.

People also had the opportunity to check out the Best of Buskers Fest performance on Friday night and the performance of the one-act play Post Its on Saturday.

The three-day event closed out Sunday afternoon with the last Picnic at the Piano of the season.
