It's a big weekend for the Okotoks Art Gallery coming up as they'll welcome two brand new exhibits for the next two months.

One of the displays will take art goers on a journey through Western Canadian photographs.

Culture & Heritage Manager Allan Boss says the Procession West display will make the prairies glow.

"It's a fabulous exhibit, it's a selection of images that take a viewer on a visual journey," he says. "It starts off on the great plains in the prairies and kind of invites you to take part in the big skies and horizons we have here."

The display is by Robert S. Michiel & Robert S. Pohl.

Boss says the photos taken by their cameras are one of a kind in this day and age.

"This is the type of camera that you stick your head under, you throw a blanket over your head and you look in and the image you're seeing is reversed and upside down. Then they take the image onto a plate and go from there, so it's an older style of photographer but the images are incredible."

Boss says those who come out the opening of the exhibit will be able to see the images like their creators.

"It's not like anything you've seen. You'll meet the artists and the see the camera used from the plains to the coast."

The opening for Procession West is Saturday at the Okotoks Art Gallery from 1-3 p.m.
