This weekend the Okotoks Recreation Centre will be home to the 3rd Annual Fitness and Wellness Symposium.

The event includes key note speeches, a healthy lunch, and breakout sessions.

Andrew Gustafson, organizer, says they've brought in well known speaker John O'Sullivan from Portland to do three main discussions.

"There's one that's designed for the entire crowd, one for parents, and one that's designed for coaches and his topic is about changing the game, how we can give youth sports back to our youth," he says. "Youth sports is a little bit broken, it's a little parent centric and it's a bit competition centric and the reality of that now is in North America 80% of kids will drop out of sports by age of 13."

Attendees can learn about a variety of topics at the breakout sessions ranging from nutrition and knee health to meditation and positive coaching and mentoring.

Janette Messer, Community Programs and Events Manager, says people can sign up for the sessions they want ahead of time.

"The best way to register is online through out Event Brite and you can access that through okotoks.ca and pick all of those sessions that are really going to interest you."

A trade fair is also taking place at the Rec Centre that day that's open to the public free of charge so residents can learn about local health and wellness services and businesses.

Tickets for the symposium on Saturday from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. are still available for $50 by clicking here.
