Okotoks RCMP have laid charges against a man who led them on a chase that led to a crash last week.

On July 14 police received a call about a residential break and enter where three vehicles had been stolen.

They were able to track down one of the vehicles and two male suspects at the Okotoks Walmart parking lot, but the men then took off in the stolen vehicle after officers tried to stop them.

A chase started and came to an end quickly when an RCMP cruiser and an unrelated vehicle collided.

Police say James Anthony Chartrand, 24, of no fixed address, and a 16-year-old male from Calgary, who can't be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were located and arrested by High River and Turner Valley RCMP.

Chartrand is now facing 22 charges including four counts of assault of a police officer, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, three counts of flight from police, break and enter and committing theft, possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of fraud, identity fraud, and theft under $5,000.

He had a bail hearing and was remanded in custody and next has a subsequent bail hearing in Okotoks Provincial Court on Friday.

The 16-year-old male is facing several charges and was in Calgary Youth Court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
