Teams of creative minds will kick off Alberta Culture Days tonight, Thursday Sept. 28.

The first ever Okotoks PlayCreation Festival gets underway at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre, a challenge for actors and writers.

Andrea Spiers with Culture and Heritage for the Town of Okotoks says registered teams will have two days to create a play.

"They've got 48 hours to write a 15 minute play and present it," she says. "Their second challenge besides the time factor is they have a bag full of items they need to include in their play. There's a quote, sound effect, prop, musical instrument and costume that must be in their play."

Spiers shares the plays will then be presented to the community at the RPAC Saturday, Sept. 30.

"Saturday at 7:00 p.m. the teams will perform their plays for anyone to come and see, It's a free event for Alberta Culture Days, anyone is welcome to come and watch the show."

She adds there's still room for teams willing to take on the challenge, with registration running at the RPAC tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

"This is a brand new event that we're trying to this year for Alberta Culture Days, so we don't really know what to expect yet, but were hoping for lots of teams to sign up. We just got all of the bags full of goodies ready for all of the teams, and we'll be at RPAC Thursday night signing teams up."

You can register before then by calling Okotoks Culture & Heritage at 403-938-3204.
