Oliver Perry has done so much for the Crescent Point Field House, now the field house is returning the favour to him.

Over the past few years Perry has donated over $100,000 to the field house and at another cheque presentation by Perry, the M.D. of Foothills and Town of Okotoks named the cafeteria Oliver Perry's Place.

The 96 year old WWII veteran and former High River Fire Chief says all of his donations and time over the years has been for the youth all over the Foothills.

"I used to sharpen skates, I used to get a nickel for a pair of skates but that was way back in the 1930's," he says. "But when I came back from the war in 1948 the skate machine was still around and the local plumber owned it and asked me if I'd still do it."

Perry says he can't put a price on helping youth.

"I ran all those kids through the fire hall and a lot of time that was on my time and in them early days they didn't pay too much, until I joined the fire department after the war."

Perry says the field house is great local cause to donate to.

"I've donated money to the children's hospital, to the War-Amps and here at the fieldhouse all these kids I may never see them again and they deserve it."

On hand to help open Perry's Place were M.D. Mayor Larry Spilak and Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson.
