More than 88,000 people were evacuated from Fort McMurray on Tuesday night, and people from the Foothills  are stepping up to help out.

Amanda Landstorfer is the owner of Pet Planet Okotoks Westmount Center and says that they are taking donations for the Pet Pantry Society up in Edmonton

They are looking for things like dog and cat food, cat sand, towels and beds, as well at things like Tupperware that can store food.

"The items will be sent to Pet Pantry Society which is an animal Foodbank out in Edmonton and than they will disperse of the donations accordingly," Landstorfer says.

She adds that if people have items that they would like to drop off you can do so at the store but they can't take cash donations.

"If you would like to donate cash you have to go to their page and donate through pay pal."

The donations will first be sent to Pet Planets home office and then will be sent to Edmonton.

Landstorfer says that the truck with the donations will be leaving Okotoks on Thursday.
