One local day care centre in Okotoks is having issues with parking near their facility.

Serendipity Pre-Kindergarten, located just off Elma Street, spoke with Okotoks Town Council last week on their concerns and hopes they will get a leg up accommodating those coming to their facility.

Krista Smethurst, Serendipity's administrative director, says they would like to make the lives of parents easier by getting their kids to them as conveniently as possible.

"The problem is that our students don't get there till 9 a.m. and a lot of the other businesses' employees are getting there sooner and taking our parking spots," she says. "So we're hoping the Town would consider something like a loading zone or a timed 15 minute drop-off zone during the day."

Smethurst says the parking woes weren't always this difficult.

"Elma Street historically has been a residential area that the Town decided to make into Olde Towne Okotoks and bring in businesses, and with businesses come clientele which adds to the parking and the lack thereof."

Smethurst says Serendipity is also concerned for the kids' safety on Elma Street and luckily there hasn't been incidents involving students yet.

"Drivers are zooming down off of Northridge onto Elma and then the businesses there and their employees who are parking on Elma Street are making parents of students park further down the street and walk further to get to the school."
