The Town of Okotoks Paint- A- Potty project is set to get underway as the five chosen designs were announced Friday at Sheep River Park.

Sydney Wayne-Nixon, one of the five finalists for the project, says she's thrilled to have been chosen to take part in this community initiative.

"I'm very excited about the challenges and things i'm going to be doing in the future, especially in the spring," she said.

Sydney's design will be featured on the outdoor washrooms by the skate park at the Okotoks Rec Centre.

She is set to begin work of her mural painting, which is comprised of suns and peace signs, this spring.

Wayne-Nixon says her sun and peace sign design was inspired by her personality and values regarding others.

"I really like to promote peace and love with people, and respect. I doodle a lot of suns and peace signs, that's where I focus most of my art work," she said.

The chosen design winners received a $150 honorarium, as well as recognition from the Mayor of Okotoks.

The other four winning designs were created by Desirae Quinn, Lucy Watt, Rori Golinoski and Mckenzie Osberg. Some designs are set to being this fall, while others will be painted in the spring of 2019.

Thirty sudents from Foothills Composite and Alberta School of Fine Arts submitted designs for the project, with more than 300 Okotoks residents participating in the voting process.

Vandalism of public washrooms has required significant time and money to repair in past instances, so the town developed this project as a way to prevent vandalism and graffitti.
