The Town of Okotoks has received a generous donation to help with the twinning of Pason Centennial Arena.

The Okotoks Minor Hockey Association has donated $200,000 towards the building of the new two arena facility in hopes to better utilize in the future.

OMHA President Jeremy Gough says thanks to events like the Jeans & Jerseys fundraiser they were able to donate a vast amount to the Town.

"They put on a couple of great events and we had the opportunity there and we put that money in the bank and we continue on to do events like that to pay our way for the new expansion," he says.

With the need for ice times at an all time high and the population of Okotoks vastly growing, Gough says the money will be well spent on the future of many hockey players in town.

"Our registration is up right now we're at 1400 kids who are playing out of our community so we need a store front. We need the opportunities for some meeting rooms, storage space to actually reduce our costs in the long run."

The Twinning will see more accommodation for OMHA to further improve their operations throughout the calendar year.

"We pay for storage in the town for some of our equipment, where we have meeting rooms and all of that costs money and really adds up a significant amount we we look at it over the year. If we make this investment into the Town we look at the long term opportunity we're actually reducing our costs for rentals."

OHMA will inherit a 600 square foot office space area once the twinning is completed in 2018.
