You may have noticed one side of the clock located in Olde Towne Okotoks may have been telling the same time for a couple of months now.

That's because of some recent damaged caused to it by vandals.

Parks Manager for the Town of Okotoks Christa Michailuck says she discovered the damage at the start of fall.

"The last weekend in September that we noticed on our Monday morning patrols around the plaza area that the clock face had been broken and a full can of beer had been wedged in under the hands of the clock," she says.

Michailuck says the Town got the clock working again but it turned out their quick fix wouldn't solve the problem.

"We were relieved when it started working again, it worked for about a week thinking there was no damage but once it stopped working we had to investigate further and weren't sure if it was the gears that were stripped or damage to the motor, after talking to the clock manufacturer they determined it was the motor that was the problem."

The Town will now have to fork over a lump sum to fix the clock says Michailuck.

"A new motor has been ordered and that part is $1800 plus the cost of installation to put it in and it's not yet been determined if the clock will have to go off site to do that work and I'm sure it depends upon temperatures and everything else including hands to work on it."

The clock is expected to be fixed in the next few weeks.
