Okotoks took part in the largest film festival in the world on Wedneday for the Canada 150 National Film Day.

Approximately 1700 screenings of different Canadian movies, were shown across the country throughout the day.

Katie Fournell, Organizer for Canada 150 Film Day Okotoks says it's important for Canadians to learn about content made in our home country.

"I think it is super important that people discover the concept of Canadian Film, it's very unique in that we are a multicultural society and we embrace that. The cool thing about Canadian film is it shows our multiculturalism, but within Canadian film is real Canadian stories, for example Passchendaele is a film about actual Canadian history. Something that's really unique about Canadian film is the stories they tell can only take place in Canada sometimes, and we can relate to them better than we can the Hollywood films."

Fournell was able to show three different Canadian movies throughout the day, Snowtime, Passchendaele, and The F Word starring Daniel Radcliffe were shown in different locations throughout town including the Okotoks Public Library and Museum

She says the day was only possible with the help from Rio Canada.

"They are the not for profit that is putting on the entirety of the event organized with film festivals, libraries, high schools across the country to ask who wants to put on a screening? They sent us all the resources we needed to put on the screening, we are so excited that we got to be a part of this, we are so overwhelmed with the support of Rio Canada to make this successful."
