Schools from Foothills School Division and Christ The Redeemer are showing support for the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy that took place on Friday in Tisdale, Sk.

Students at Percy Pegler School wore green on Tuesday to pay tribute to the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, of which 15 members were killed. Percy Pegler was just one of the schools participating.

Okotoks Junior High School will be donating all proceeds from their weekly Hats On For Charity fundraiser to the Humboldt Broncos GoFundMe page. Students will have to donate minimum of $1 in exchange for the school allowing them to wear their hats. The fundraiser will be running every Friday for the rest of the month.

The school will also be selling green bracelets with the trending hashtag #HumboldtStrong. All proceeds from the bracelet sales will be donated to the GoFundMe page in addition to the Hats On for Charity proceeds.

Jamie Leidl, Holy Trinity Academy Vice Principle,  played on the Humboldt Broncos team during his teen years and says the tragedy has prompted himself and other alumni to reach out and offer support to the team and each other.

"We all rode those buses, we drove that same highway, that same intersection many, many times."

Leidl adds the staff and students have been wearing green in support of the Broncos. Leidl has also hung up his own Broncos jersey that he wore during the 1995-96 season.

Support for the Humboldt Broncos has exceeded the $8.6 million mark, with big companies like Canadian Tire donating more than $50,000.
