The long weekend may have meant vacation time for many residents however for Okotoks RCMP it meant extra patrols making sure people were safe.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa says it seems like residents are getting the message with what they responded to.

"The Okotoks RCMP were busy, we had normal call volume and on top of that the members were out and about in terms of traffic safety and traffic violations. Over the long weekend RCMP saw one impaired charge, one 72 hour suspension, and a few traffic violations."

Randhawa adds it seemed most motorists were respectful out on local highways as well.

"General observation was that most people followed the rules of the road, traffic was decent on the highways, people were cognisant of the fact it was a long weekend and if they were getting from point A to point B they were taking their time."

He shares there's no one type of call RCMP respond to as calls could range from fender benders to domestics.
