The roads in Okotoks haven't seen much snow in the past few months, but there's still quite a bit of gravel on them.

The good news is, spring street cleaning is ramping up, Okotoks Operations Projects Coordinator Jamie Greenshields says it's beginning a few weeks earlier than usual this year.

"Its all about two weeks earlier than normal," he says. "That's about where we started last year, late march early April as well too, its all about two weeks earlier than normal."

There's always one difficulty with planning street cleaning, and that's guessing when there wont be any more major snowfalls. Greenshields says since the weather has been warm and the sun is high in the sky, there won't be a need to sand the roads.

"If we do have those snow events, we'll likely be doing more of a plowing, rather than a sanding. Hopefully we're beyond the 20 and 30 below temperatures. We're feeling pretty good about it, and we're always watching the skies to plan for it."

Greenshields says that there will be at least a few days notice to any neighbourhood road crews will be sweeping.

"We'll have a lot of messaging on the website, on Twitter, and Facebook, to push out communication to let the folks know what communities we're about to come into. Just so they're aware of us, and of course we like folks to know where we are from a safety standpoint too, so everyone's cautious around the sweepers."
