Annual maintenance on the Okotoks Rec Centre's Riley Minue and Swindell's pools is underway resulting in a week long closure of the pools.

Tim Arnholz, aquatics supervisor for the Town of Okotoks, says there's much to be done during the down time, but one major project should catch the eye of their regular users.

"The biggest thing that the public will notice is on our big Riley Minue lap pool.  We have contractors in that are re-grouting all of the grout lines in there." Arnholz shares "The pool is over 10 years old and over the last few years the grout has been slowly wearing away."

Besides re-grouting the tiles Arnholz says there's also some maintenance to be done behind the scenes.

"Every year we do a deep cleaning of the building, we go through and make sure all the lights work, check on the change rooms and showers and ensure they're working the way that they're supposed to, we also have some contractors coming in to make some slight modifications to the showers to make them easier to repair and maintain in the future."

With only a week to complete all of the maintenance that the pool facilities require, Arnholz says they will be up and running by Monday Sept. 18th.

"So we're expecting that we will be able to fill on Wednesday, we will use Thurs - Sat to heat the water, re balance and make sure everything's ready for the public and be ready to open for Monday."

Maintenance and repairs are being conducted to ensure the health safety of the public at the pool.
