A mother-daughter duo from Okotoks are ready to debut their book.

A Fling Through the Highlands was written by freelance author and photographer Nancy Desilets and her 15 year old photographer daughter Sarah.

The pair had travelled to Scotland for a Highland dance competition Sarah was competing in and wanted a keepsake of the Highland folklore and dance stories they'd heard, but noticed all these stories were spread by word of mouth and never been written down. Nancy did research on the stories and her and Sarah sifted through the 5, 000 photographs they captured on their trip and narrowed it down to the select few that made it into the book.

Nancy says it was amazing to create 'a fling through the highlands" with Sarah.

"It was like working with a coworker, not a whiny teenager," she laughs. "It gave our relationship a whole new level. I realized just how devoted she is to graphic design and visual arts. She will end up doing something in her career in that regard because she just gets it."

Nancy says proceeds from the book will go towards the Highwood Highland Dancers.

"You can only sell so much cookie dough, gift wrap, and entertainment books. They're all really good ideas for fundraising but this one at least is relevant to the sport. The girls can get behind it and feel quite proud to go around and fund raise for it because it actually has something to do with what they're doing."

The book will be on sale Saturday at the Foothills Highland Games, or can be purchased by contacting a Highwood Highland dancer.
