Panel One is a local comic creator group based out of Calgary that is planning their first ever Comic Creator Festival this summer.

The local group is made up of Calgary and Foothills artists and writers that want to showcase their work in the ultimate close up experience.

Though Calgary already has a huge Comic and Entertainment Expo to compete with The Comic Creator Festival is different because it goes back to the old school roots of Comic Book festivals.

Okotoks Artist, Comic Writer and Panel One Member Steven Charles Rosia says the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is a great event but the whole Comic end of it is very overshadowed.

"Calgary Comic Book and Entertainment Expo is a large pop culture expo that has all sorts of media guests and all sorts of flashy things going on. Which unfortuntely means that the comic end of it, which doesn't bring in the large dollars like the TV stars do often gets forgotten or really overshadowed. And that's kind of the point of our show, The Panel One Comic Creators festival is actually suoppsed to be meant as an art show. It's a showcase of sequential art and the people making it."

Rosia says the Comic Creator Festival is shooting to raise $3,000 for their event to ease financial pressure off of creators and the possible festival attendees.

"So $3,000 is our initial goal, it won't cover the entire event but it will do something to alleviate the cost up front to ourselves putting it on and also the people that hope to attend...we aren't asking for donations though, this is very much a you give a little bit of money and get something huge in return."

Panel One is fundraising on Kickstarter.com, currently they have had $1,348 donated with only 16 days to go to hit their $3,000 mark.

The fun thing about donating money to their event is every dollar you pledge you get something in return, whether it be comic books, postcards, portraits drawn by Panel One members, a chance to interview members at the festival and other great gifts from the local group.

The event will be filled with meet and greets, workshops for all ages and even a night session for +18 to get a chance to mingle with the creators.

Comic Creator Festival will take place in Calgary at Hillhusrt Sunnyside Community Hall on June 4th.
