Foothills residents have been spotted wearing red poppies as a sign of respect to veterans.

The Okotoks Legion poppy campaign is back for it's second year and has reached out to businesses all over town.

Maureen Haberstock, chair of the Okotoks poppy campaign, says she's looking forward to this year's campaign after the success last year's saw.

"I continue to be gratified and amazed by the level of support in Okotoks for our cause. We did raise a significant amount of money last year and had massive support from the merchants of Okotoks. We had over 300 boxes out and lots of support from the community in general."

Haberstock says the poppies are a way to acknowledge a promise.

"Our country and our citizens have pledged that when our veterans come home broken we will look after them and that really is the job of the Legion, to make sure that pledge is honoured and that really is what Remembrance Day is all about, remembering those who have not come home and reminding us these are our sons and daughters. That's what the poppy campaign is all about."

According to Haberstock there's currently about 300,000 living veterans in Canada.

The Dewdney Players Group Theatre will be donating funds from the opening night of their production It's a Wonderful Life on Nov. 11 to the Okotoks Legion.
