The Town of Okotoks is asking residents to be mindful of their water usage as consumption in town is hitting near capacity during this heat wave.

To help ease demand, the Town is asking residents to be water wise and obey the watering schedule while limiting other water uses.

On Saturday, even numbered addresses may water and on Sunday odd numbered addresses can. The watering times are 6 a.m.- 9 a.m. and in the evening from 7 p.m.- 11 p.m.

Dawn Smith, sustainability coordinator for the Town, says people should limit their water consumption when it comes to other chores aside from watering their lawns.

"We will understand if people want to keep kids cool for brief moments of time for safety but we'd like people to refrain from washing their cars, siding, or windows this weekend because we are so low on water."

Smith adds the Town is doing what it can to reduce its own consumption.

"The Town is reducing water consumption on its irrigation areas so non-essential sports fields are obviously the first the water reduction is done on."

The Town will release a PSA if additional water restrictions are put in place.
