It's the final push for nominations for the 2016 Okotoks Hall of Fame, with the deadline falling on Mar. 31.

The Hall of Fame recognizes and honours the town's most outstanding citizens in the areas of arts and culture, sports, and those who have made long-standing and significant contributions to the community.

2014 Award of Distinction winner Jim 'Bearcat' Murray says out of all of the hall fame's he's been inducted to, the one in Okotoks made him the most excited.

"To get the Okotoks one was the most thrilling part of my career, because I grew up here, its my home town," he says. "It was just mind-boggling when they said I was in, with my sister too, that was a real bonus."

Murray's sister Annable was inducted in 2014 to recognize her contributions as an athlete.

Bearcat was inducted into the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society and the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame Trainer's Division in 2009. He was inducted into the Calgary Flames Alumni Wall of Fame in 2011, and the Native Calgarian Society in 2013.

Murray says having the support from the community, in what he says is the greatest place in the world, was the biggest honour of all.

"This is my home town, and it always will be. To be nominated alone was good, but to be accepted and inducted was another big thrill."

There are seven spots available for inductees this year, and Murray says residents giving their input on who they think is deserving is crucial.

"This is a great town, and its got a tremendous history over the generations. There's lots of people that should be, and deserve to be inducted. People should get out and nominate."
