Okotoks hairstylist Misty Wind Shingoose is working to help those in need.

Earlier this year she began fundraising to start her Misty's Miracles charity that gives free hair cuts out of her van to the homeless in downtown Calgary.

Shingoose did her first haircut for the campaign at the beginning of the summer.

Now with Christmas almost here Shingoose is giving out gift bags to the homeless of downtown.

"A client of mine and my mom's put together 50 gift bags for the weekend, and now with the donations that are coming in me and my friends are going out and purchasing the same items she had in hers to make 40 more this week and 40 more next week," Shingoose says.

She says it is amazing how the project has grown.

When she started she originally was just looking for a friend to go downtown with her and now she's being asked by people if they can come and help.

"I have another barber Lyndsay Stoh who is going to be the second regular person who's coming. It will be nice to have half a minute break and talk to people myself instead of just being the only cutter."

Shingoose says that when it comes down to everything she wants people to understand that it isn't about money, presents, or gifts.

"When it comes to addiction and mental health issues of the homeless there is nothing better you could give than your time."
