Town council took a moment at Monday night's meeting to recognize the community work done by the Okotoks Girl Guides and Pathfinders.

Back in May the girls participated in the Yellow Fish Road Project, painting storm drains with yellow fish to remind residents that drains are for rainwater only.

Brianne Kolenko, guider with the 2nd Okotoks Girl Guides, says the group really appreciated the town acknowledgement for their community

efforts.

"It's really cool for the town to recognize that the girls have gone out and done this project," Kolenko says.

The girls received a standing ovation from mayor Bill Robertson and council as well as certificates and other gifts.

Lisa Penzo, guider with the 1st Okotoks Girl Guides, says the girls love giving back to the town either way but the recognition from the town is a huge bonus.

"This is a nice opportunity for multiple patrols to get together. There was girl guides and pathfinders involved so we go to work in units and do something for the community. They don't do it for the recognition so when they are recognized they are surprised because they would do it anyways, but it's that extra head nod saying thank you for what you are doing."

The Girl Guides and Pathfinders painted a total of 84 drains within the Suntree and Tower Hill neighbourhoods during the Yellow Fish Road Project.
