An annual fundraising BBQ held in Okotoks earlier this month will support the Foothills Country Hospice.

Local Cobs Bread franchisees Lee and Kelly Hodgins were at the hospice this morning to present a cheque for almost $1,600.00.

Lee Hodgins says that the turnout for the fundraiser was great once again this year.

"Anything they want to donate goes directly to the hospice and then we top it off to make it a little better," he explains. "It's a good thing, because we've been open four years now and we've both lost some family members in those four years, so we know the value of the hospice."

Foothills Country Hospice Executive Director Dawn Elliott says the donation will help support projects at the hospice.

"We actually have a donor board that we have up at our gala every year and it lists a number of different things that we need to take care of the hospice, from patient supplies to revamping our patients' rooms -- we need to paint them this year and do some wall repairs," Elliott explains. "We have a huge list of things that this money could go towards."

The Cobs Bread Fundraising BBQ served up hamburgers and hot dogs for donations to the hospice on August 12.

Kelly Hodgins points out that the BBQ is a great way to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of Cobs Bread Okotoks, while giving back to the community at the same time.

"We chose the Foothills Hospice as our charity of choice when we first opened," she explains. "And we wanted to continue that every year on our anniversary, with some sort of celebration to continue giving back."
