Encana has gifted the Okotoks Food Bank with a generous donation.

Through a charity auction, the group raised $7,600 and from there it was determined through a draw which charity would receive the money.

Todd Martin, Senior Environmental Specialist at Encana, was thrilled when his suggestion of the Okotoks Food Bank was drawn with the funds they'd raised being matched by the company, resulting in a $15,350 cheque for the organization.

He says supporting the food bank is something he's happy to do.

"Coming from humble beginnings I was aware of what a hamper was... the food bank has a direct effect and we can see that and because it's near and dear to my heart, I mean we all have certain influences that cause us to go certain directions and in this case my history, the great work I see these folks doing makes it an easy cause to support."

Martin says the food bank is a caring and compassionate organization.

"I'm absolutely impressed by the level of community support and how tightly that organization is run, it's clean," he explains. "Sheila Hughes said everything that goes through there is touched so there's lots of love and attention that goes into every item that comes in and goes out of that and it's ok to go there, she explained they're all about hugs so it's a very welcoming environment."

Martin adds he's grateful for the support of his coworkers and Encana for making the donation possible.
