The Okotoks Food Bank is preparing for the Fall Community Food Drive this weekend.

On Wednesday members from the community's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will go around and leave empty donation bags and information hangers on doors for residents.

Sheila Hughes, executive director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says the hope is for residents to fill the bags and leave them out for pick up on Saturday.

"Collection will start at 10 o'clock Saturday and we're asking people to have their donations out before that, if they could fill those bags with non-perishable food items, and leave them on the front door step so they're visible from the street because volunteers won't be coming and knocking on the doors."

Typically the food drive takes place in the spring but this is the first year it's been moved to the fall.

Hughes says that's not the only change that's been made to the campaign.

"We're going out into the out lying areas we don't usually include in the food drive, so we service the areas of Dewinton, Davisburg, Aldersyde, and part of the MD. We will have pick up points at Heritage Point Community Lake House, Dewinton Community Hall, Davisburg Community Hall, and Aldersyde Community Hall."

According to Hughes donations were down over the summer and demand was up by about 45-60%.

An information line will be available for residents to call incase their food bags haven't been picked up by 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
